This Saturday, I was checking my TikTok Studio analytics and noticed that my stats for the week have improved significantly. It's already my fourth week on TikTok, and I feel like I've started to build some real connections with other users. I'm still far from the viral moment I'm aiming for, but I can confidently say that progress is happening — and the analytics are showing good results.
So, what contributed to the improvement?
I made some changes to my approach. To give you a comparison: in my first week, I only posted one or two videos just to learn how the uploading process worked. In my second week, I started getting more comfortable using the app. By the third week, I was posting content more frequently than before. However, during those three weeks, I was mostly just dumping content. Even so, I was still getting a good amount of views and some likes. It showed me that the app wasn’t just accepting my videos — it was actually pushing them to other users to gauge their reactions.
Although I was getting decent views and likes, it felt like I needed to do more than just dump content if I wanted to build real connections with other users. I’m fully aware that social media is a two-way street for "normies" like me. Being totally anonymous makes it a tougher journey to connect with people, unlike creators who show their personalities in their videos — people find their content more relatable.
I didn’t want to dox myself in any way, so I decided to continue my TikTok journey as the same anonymous person I am on Hive. I'm committed to keeping it that way, but I know it will require more effort to relate to other users.
One strategy I thought of was to engage more with the community. As I scroll through my For You Page (FYP), I hit the Like button on videos I resonate with, and I choose about 5–10 posts to leave thoughtful comments on.
Obviously, it worked! Although it's not the viral moment I dream of, it’s definitely a good step toward building connections. To make my approach more focused, I also trained my FYP algorithm to show me posts from users based here in Singapore. In my mind, if I want to take networking seriously, then I should be connecting with users in my own region. I think that’s a more logical way to approach my social media experience on TikTok.
Now that my FYP feed is showing me more #singapore content, I’m able to interact more naturally with posts — and even with the users themselves.
The incredibly smooth user experience on TikTok definitely makes it easier for people to interact and connect through the platform.
Just earlier today, I had a great interaction with one of the creators based here, which was an awesome experience for me. I started the conversation by talking about the absurd weather we’ve been having in the city, and somehow, the conversation turned into more than just a single exchange of comments — which was really cool!
I'm really excited to see where this journey will take me as I continue building connections while staying true to my anonymous approach. Every small interaction feels like a step forward, and I'm learning a lot along the way. Here's to more growth, more conversations, and maybe someday — that viral moment I've been dreaming of!
