Well, technically that's inaccurate. The process for creating Midnight Potions by land owners will be released in today's maintenance, the actual potions will likely take a bit to be produced and put on the non-card market.

There's no real hurry for consumers, only for producers! Midnight potions, which will double the chances of finding black foil cards in packs, have no purpose before Conclave Arcana packs can be opened, which is shortly after the presale will be over, on May 11th. If the information I got is accurate, packs could be opened on May 13th (but I'm not sure about that).

For land owners themselves who want to produce Midnight potions, they should probably get ready to do so as soon as the maintenance is finished.

To craft Midnight potions, aura is needed which is a new soulbound resource. So, if you want it, you need to produce it. To produce it, you need Aura Labs, which have the same harvesting requirements as a Shard Mine or a Research Huts. But before that, to be allowed to build an Aura Lab, you need a permit, which is also soulbound.

Let's make a parenthesis for the permits. Up until now, we had one type of Research points. To be able to give early utility to Research but also make it count toward the Secret of Praetoria, this is now split in two: Lifetime Research (which is the same as now, counts for Secret of Praetoria), and Current Research (which is spendable research).

At the beginning, obviously Current Research = Lifetime Research. As you spend Research, Current Research goes down (and up when you research more).

Current Research will be spent to buy an Aura Lab Permit (you need one for each lab). Each one costs 10,000 Current Research.

Pay attention that permits are not tradable, they are soulbound! They are also not consumable. Meaning, you use one to build an Aura Lab, but as the announcement post put it, when/if you "deconstruct" the Aura Lab, you get the permit back.

The Aura Lab itself you can build right away using 50 Time Crystals, or you can switch the worksite of an existing plot the normal way (after the maintenance, when Aura Labs are available!) and wait 24 hours and pay 500 Grain at the end.

Aura Labs can be built on any plot (except Castles or Keeps), but have a 100% production bonus on Occupied and Magic plots.

Production of Aura is identical to Iron, at a rate of 0.0005 / hr. You need 40 aura to craft 1 Midnight potion.

What Will Be the Demand for Midnight Potions?

Nobody knows for sure. When Matt calculated his spreadsheets, he put a ratio of 50% of all packs opened with Midnight potions. I'm thinking behind this there is previous experience of what happened with Alchemy and Legendary potions. There is one caveat though. Those potions could be earned "for free" and were soulbound, Midnight potions come only with a cost associated and can be traded.

In my opinion, the amount of Midnight potions purchased (as well as packs), is proportional to how high and how fast the crypto market goes, including SPS, and to the success of the marketing campaign.

I am pretty sure the rate of using Midnight potions will be much higher on Alchemy packs and Legendary packs than it will be on Standard packs.

Part of it is because the chances of finding black foils in Alchemy and Legendary packs is higher than in Standard packs (when compared with a number of standard packs that fit in the price of a Alchemy or Legendary pack), part of it is because people who purchased Alchemy or Legendary packs often can afford the cost of Midnight potions too, while people who bought standard packs either can't or have a different target (like completing a regular foil set).

I'm thinking we will have more than 70% of Alchemy packs opened with Midnight potions (I'd say a higher percentage, but there may be a number of uninformed investors), maybe half of the Legendary packs, and perhaps 10% of the standard packs, if we are lucky. I have nothing backing those numbers but an educated guess.

Of course, those percentages don't say anything about the number of Midnight potions that will be in demand, as that depends on the number of packs that will eventually be sold, and that we can't know. Most people will likely buy standard packs in the general sale. But we've already heard a few whales expressing their desire to hold a complete set of BF, and for that they will need Alchemy packs, maybe some Legendary packs.

I don't consider the presale over yet either. I believe those interested took a break seeing packs won't go away in a few minutes or hours, so they can buy more at the end, cheaper, if the market continues to go higher.
