Hello, hivers and game lovers,

Welcome to the blog of @southgamer, where I talk about my gaming experience and other things game-related. As a gamer, it should not be strange that you have found yourself in a situation where you want to play some games, but the next person wants to do something else with the TV. It could be your roommate, spouse, or sibling, but in my case, it's my girl.

Previously, I remember how she wanted to watch the latest MrBeast YouTube video, and I wanted to play a video game using the TV. It was quite conflicting, but I ended up being the one to give in.

Ever since then, I have thought of a more convenient way for us to get what we want at the same time, without one person giving up something for the other. This even led me to try playing video games on my PC through the Xbox store. The first game I played was Asphalt Legend Unite.

Ideally, I do not game on PC, because my laptop is mainly for my design gigs and work. I only game on my PS5 console. Until I found out about remote play.

Initially, I thought remote play worked only when you were using the PlayStation Portal, known as the PSP. You get to play your available games on your PlayStation console using a portable device, hence the PSP.

Then I found out about PS Remote Play through the PlayStation app on my mobile device. While scrolling through the app to get my game screenshots, I saw a brief description about what the app does, and I became interested in trying it out.

  • Immediately, I downloaded the software for my PC

  • Signed in to my PlayStation account

  • Paired my PC to my PlayStation console

  • And I tested with a game.

Obviously, the game I used for my testing was the Ghost of Tsushima, as it happens to be my favourite game at the moment. But I ran into some complications. Anytime the game pad gets connected, the remote display on my PC gets disconnected from the remote play mode on my PlayStation console. I tried it twice until I decided to create a new game profile.

As it turns out, it actually worked. All you have to do is create a new playing profile for your console when you want to play remotely. I suspect it is because the game decodes you as another user, so when you connect to an existing profile, it automatically logs you out of the remote play mode on the other device.

What I noticed while playing remotely

One thing I noticed while playing the Ghost of Tsushima remotely on my PC is the image resolution. There is a quite noticeable difference between the TV resolution and the PC resolution. The image on the TV appears to be brighter with more colours than the one on my PC. Take a look for yourself:

Nonetheless, I'm glad I have discovered remote playing for my PlayStation games, and I will be trying more games later on. Oh, do not forget, proximity is also a factor. The PC you intend to use has to be close to the PlayStation console.

Also, I will be trying out PS Remote Play on mobile next to see how it pans out.

See you in the next game.

I am @southgamer. Try gaming and thank me later.
