What's up frens!
Got another coin today, this one from land of Dracula, Romania! If memory serves me right, this one is the second coin I show you from the country.
Let's check it out:
This is the reverse side of the coin and other than the romanian coat of arms, things are pretty standard. Denomination (200 LEI) and "1942" which is the minting date. Oh and the word "ROMANIA", which is pretty self explanatory 😅
Now let's check the obverse:
Here we have a portrait of Mihai I, king at the time of Romania and also the last ever king to reign the country. His reign lasted from 20 July 1927 to 8 June 1930 and again from 6 September 1940 until his forced abdication on 30 December 1947.
Interestingly, he first became king at age 5 but later a regency ruled in his name because he was too young.
Now, I don't know if he was a good king or not. But after a quick read it seems like he made moves both against the Nazis during WW II and later after the war against the commies, when Romania was occupied by the Soviet Union. Both really tough options to go for for a king of a small country, so my guess is that he was one of the goodies 😂
Here's a link to Wikipedia if you'd like to learn more on him.
Now what I find interesting about this coin is the edge. Despite it's small size (just 6g heavy) they managed to fit some engraved text:
It reads
NIHIL SINE DEO
For
Nothing without God
This is the official motto of the Romanian royal family, deeply tied to Romania’s monarchy and the belief that divine guidance was essential for the country's destiny.
When it comes to silver we have 6 g of 0.835 purity. Yeah, it's a small coin but at least we got a high purity!
And that friend concludes yet another coin!
See you soon with more shiny from all over the world!
